A former mayor of Davenport has died.
Thom Hart, 70, died on Wednesday, January 24 at Genesis Medical Center, East Campus.
Visitation will be held on Friday, February 9 from 4-7 p.m. at Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home, 614 N. Main Street in Davenport. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Empowering Abilities. A memorial mass will be held on Saturday, February 10 at 11 a.m. at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, 417 N. Main Street in Davenport. Thomas William Hart was born in Davenport on July 27, 1953 to Phyllis Ann (Kerper) and Stephen A. Hart Jr., the ninth of 20 children. He met Jane Domeraski at St. Ambrose College and they were married in 1976. She died on October 28, 2014.
Hart devoted much of his life to preservation and development in Davenport. He was 20 when he was elected to serve as the city’s Fourth Ward Alderman in 1973. He served on the Scott County Board of Supervisors before being elected Mayor of Davenport in 1984. He served three terms before the city retired him.
He worked as a consultant for the former Iowa-Illinois Gas and Electric Company and retired from the Quad-City Development Group in 2004. His final retirement came in 2012, from the Iowa Department of Economic Development. He served as Chair of the Scott County Democratic Party for many years and as a Commissioner for the Iowa Department of Transportation.
