Billy Corgan launches blog on spirituality

Smashing Pumpkins' Billy Corgan has launched a new website, Everything From Here To There, a blog about spirituality. Corgan and various guest writers will be contributing to the site, sharing views on "Hidden Truths", "Mind-Body-Soul integration" and "the flame in every heart".

"Hello, many blessings to you," Corgan wrote in the site's introductory note. "The purpose of this website is to discuss openly and without fear concepts of Mind-Body-Soul integration. If you are drawn to the Hidden Truths, drawn to God as something beyond limitation, and drawn to Love as the greatest force in the Universe, then you have come to the right place at the right time." He signed the message using his full name, William Patrick Corgan. We assume this was to underline his deep, serious spiritual commitment.

Though he is most famous for singing about the world as a vampire and himself as a rat in a cage, Corgan has often talked about God – mostly in vague, soppy blogposts. Everything From Here To There will presumably collect these blogposts in a single, vague, soppy place – making it easier to, er, accord them the serious contemplation they deserve.

"Like any good tree that one would hope to grow, we must set our roots deep into the ground so that what is real will prosper in the Light of Love," Corgan explained. "We begin with the undying belief that there is a unifying intelligence that manifests itself in Every-thing. Even if you don't believe in God, exploring fully the idea of a God or Gods should pose no threat to you."

Corgan has not joined the Moonies, the Hare Krishnas or the Catholic church – he insists the site is "non-denominational" and will "promote no religion". In fact, it seems a rather spur-of-the-moment project – the site was only purchased on 12 August and registered to Smashing Pumpkins.

Though no other contributors have yet been announced, Corgan said he hopes to attract a wide variety of spiritual people. "The idea of a higher collective intelligence or consistent organising principle should be worth contemplating no matter what you believe in (or don't believe in)," he wrote. "For who is God if not us? ... We swing the garden gate open, and ALL are welcome here."

We're not feeling confident about that next Smashing Pumpkins album ...
